SYLLABUS

 

  1. Comparative Religion / Philosophy  - Course #312  -  9 Credits
    Students will choose one of the following to read: "History of Civilization", volumes in book form by Will Durant or Handbook of Denominations in the United States 4th Edition by Frank S. Mead.  They will also read "The Orthodox Church, A Well Kept Secret" by Nicozisin.  Students will critique 5 - 10 denominations and visit at least three denominations. Students interested in the Orthodox perspective will read the following four books:
  2. Search the Scripture / Bible Study  - Course #353 - 6 Credits
    Students will search the scriptures and use a concordance to answer questions in each lesson.  Students will also read nine short books and create a sermon from each book, which can be e-mailed, placed on cassette tape, or typed and submitted.

  3. History of the Church and the Legal Courts /Apostolic Perspective  -Course  # 302 - 9 Credits
    An introduction to church canon/ law with an orthodox translation/ interpretation will be covered.  This course covers some of the historical issues of canonicity by giving detailed information of specific incidents that took place involving the Greek Orthodox Church in court.  Archbishop Haralambos will provide ten issues with facts and documentation in written format.  Students will also become familiar with the website of St. Michael Academy of Eschatology.  An exam will be given at the end of the course.

  4. Orthodoxy in Prophecy  - Course #406 - 4 Credits
    Challenges of the 20th Century Church are the result of what already has been spoken or written by holy anointed men and women.  Find out what some of these challenges are in prophecy.  Three written oral or written commentaries after studying the required work completes this course.

  5. History, Faith, and Life  - Course #477 - 13 Credits
    A touch of history and enlightenment through gaining knowledge about Orthodox traditions and life will bring focus to those who may be searching for truth.  After reading the following books students will complete exams.
  6. Gospels / Biblical Study  - Course #401 - 6 Credits
    This is an excellent study of the seven sacraments as they relate to the Bible.  An exam will be given on the seven sacraments.  Also, students are introduced to the Greek and Hebrew language with tests to show acquired learning.
  7. Healing with Deliverance  - Course #403 - 4 Credits
    Teaching principles for reconciliation and restoration are applied.  Students will apply what they have learned to a family situation or an individual conflict and write how it was resolved or put on the road to healing.  Exams are given.
  8. Priesthood Studies  - Course #422 - 9 Credits
    By viewing and practice using texts and rubrics students will be able to carry out a Divine Liturgy after ordination.  Exams given.
